Excelerate in FSRU charter deal with Germany
Texas-based Excelerate Energy said October 25 it had signed a five-year charter contract with the German government to deploy its floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU) Excelsior to Germany.
The contract fulfills a term sheet signed by Excelerate and French multinational utility ENGIE in September to deploy an FSRU to a new LNG import terminal being developed at the German Port of Wilhelmshaven. The FSRU will also support Tree Energy Services’ planned green hydrogen import terminal there.

“The deployment of the FSRU Excelsior to Germany demonstrates our commitment to strengthening energy security at a time when traditional energy sources have proven unreliable,” Excelerate CEO Steven Kobos, said. “FSRUs have the ability to offer flexible access to greater supply diversification and can serve as a complementary backstop for the rapid scaling of green energy projects.”
Excelsior is expected to go to charter in Q1 2023, providing 5bn m3/year of sendout capacity and 138,000 m3 of LNG storage capacity.
