European Integration on the Rise

European markets will experience a gradual integration in the next five years, according to a map released on Wednesday by Entsog and GIE. The analysis is based on the perspective of the year 2013.

In terms of import and transmission capacity, there are no countries set to experience a decreased interconnection with their neighbours in the next 5 years. The only exception comes from a forecasted decline in capacity from Slovakia to Czech Republic.

On the other hand, one third of European countries will increase their LNG capacity, with France and Italy leading the trend.

According to the map, Russia will increase its transmission capacity to Germany.

The analysis also shows that Russian gas and LNG are the only two EU supply sources that are lower in winter than in summer, whereas national production and supply from Norway, Algeria and Libya increased in winter 2013 with respect to summer 2013.

“The System Development Map, like the Seasonal Reviews, inform about the last supply and demand trends. I hope that this fourth edition will continue to be useful to the market and institutions for their analysis,” Vittorio Musazzi, ENTSOG General Manager, commented in a separate press release.
