EC Asks Romania to Comply with EU Rules on Gas Security
The European Commission has asked Romania to comply with EU rules on security of gas supply.
‘The EU Security of Gas Supply Regulation (EU) No 994/2010 aims to ensure that Member States are well prepared to deal with possible supply disruptions. To this end, Member States have to enable bi-directional gas flow across borders and prepare emergency and preventive action plans in advance’ the European Commission wrote on Friday.
According to the Commission, Bucharest did not adopt a Preventive Action Plan and an Emergency Plan, which should have been adopted by 3 December 2012.
‘Romania has to two months to comply with its obligations as otherwise the Commission may decide to refer the case to the Court of Justice.’
The Commission also requested Bulgaria and Hungary to fully transpose the EU legislation on energy efficiency.
Hungary took another blow on Friday, when Falcon Oil and Naftna Industrija Srbije jsc (NIS) announced they agreed to plug and abandon the Besa-D-1 well. The well production did not meet commercial rates.
‘In accordance with the agreement with NIS, the Group is fully carried on all costs associated with the three well drilling programme and is working with NIS in evaluating all options to derive shareholder value for the remainder of the programme’ reads the note released by Falcon.
