EU Ready to Assist Ukraine with Gas Infrastructure Investments

The European Union could financially support Ukraine overhauling its gas pipeline grid, with a possible participation of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD).

"We are prepared to help with the overhaul of the gas pipeline network of Ukraine," Energy Commissioner Guenther Oettinger told in an interview with German magazine Focus.

The Commission has already approved a €7 million grant in the framework of the EU European Neighbourhood Policy Instrument (ENPI) Cross-border Cooperation (CBC) Programme Romania-Ukraine-Moldova 2007-2013.

Gazprom, which ships about 40% of its exports via Ukraine, said last week that its gas exports to Europe did not go registered any setbacks related to the turmoil in Kiev.
