Equinor's Appraisal of North Sea Find Disappoints

An appraisal well drilled by Equinor at the recently made Echino South discovery off Norway has come up dry, the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate (NPD) reported on December 9.

The state oil company sank the well 3 km southwest of the Fram field in the northern North Sea, with the objective of uncovering more pay at Echino South and determining its oil to gas ratio. According to the NPD, the find had a pre-drill estimate of 6-16mn m3 (38-100mn barrels) of recoverable oil equivalent.

“The well is dry,” the NPD said, noting that preliminary estimates now placed Echino South’s size at 7-16mn m3.

Equinor plans to tie the discovery back to existing infrastructure in the Troll-Fram area.
