Equinor Comes Up Dry Off Norway
Equinor has completed a dry wildcat some 8 km northeast of the Mikel gas and condensate field in the Norwegian Sea, the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate (NPD) reported on September 10.
The well’s primary aim was to prove petroleum in lower to middle Jurassic rock layers at the Lanterna prospect. It did not find any trace of oil and gas, however, and has been plugged and abandoned.
The wildcat was drilled by the West Hercules semi-submersible, which will move on to sink another probe at an Equinor-operated North Sea licence.
