Focus News: Environmental impact assessment on shale gas

An environmental impact assessment (EIA) will be required not only for shale gas production, but exploration as well. The procedure was introduced with amendments to the Environmental Protection Act adopted by MPs yesterday, the Trud daily informs. The EIA is supposed to identify existing risks and possible ways for them to be avoided. If the final evaluation is negative there would be no exploration. Shale gas exploration and production are currently banned in Bulgaria by decision of the Bulgarian Parliament.  MORE
