Eni to Expand Work in Bahrain

Italy’s Eni has signed a memorandum of understanding with Bahrain to help the Middle Eastern state develop its energy industry, the company said on February 4.

Under the accord, Eni, Bahrain’s state-owned Tatweer Petroleum and its government will jointly assess and launch new initiatives in the fields of renewable energy, LNG supply and oil and gas exploration.

Bahrain produces around 45,000-50,000 b/day of oil and 14-15bn m3/yr of gas. It consumes more gas than it produces, and last month launched its first LNG import terminal.

Eni entered Bahrain last year, securing a production-sharing agreement for the offshore block 1. The Middle East is a key focus for the Italian major, which also works in Oman, Iraq, Lebanon and the UAE.
