Eni, Swiss Open EP sign pact to regulate emergency gas transits

Italy's Eni and Open EP, a Swiss company, have entered into an agreement to ensure the uninterrupted flow of natural gas to Switzerland and Italy in the event of disruptions or significant reductions in gas supplies from Germany, Eni said on November 28.

This partnership aims to bolster energy security in Switzerland and Italy by optimising the utilisation of the Swiss Transitgas pipeline, which transports gas from France to Italy via Switzerland. The agreement also aligns with the joint declaration on energy security signed by the Italian ministry of environment and energy security and the Swiss federal department of environment, transport, energy and communications in July 2023.

The agreement will be in effect from December 2, 2023, until September 30, 2024. During this period, the Swiss authorities will refrain from imposing any restrictions on Eni's gas transportation rights through Switzerland.
