Eni, Fincantieri to Co-operate in New Gas-Fired Systems

Italian energy firm Eni has signed a memorandum of understanding with Italian heavy ship builder Fincantieri to establish an energy research and development partnership.

Among its objectives are projects related to natural gas, including gas-fired power plants, LNG, floating offshore production vessels and transport, where gas can help reduce the environmental impact of energy consumption, the two companies said May 29.

"The MoU is part of Eni's strategy to tackle climate change, promote sustainable development and support the use of gas for transport. It strengthens Eni's collaboration with the Italian excellences and underlines the company’s commitment to minimize CO2 emissions, particularly in the naval sector. In relation to the individual opportunities that will be subject of evaluation, information on related party transactions will be provided if necessary," Eni said.

"Within the agreement signed today, Fincantieri will be able to leverage on its expertise and technologies in order to collaborate with Eni both in Italy and abroad," Fincantieri said.

The agreement was signed by Claudio Descalzi, for Eni; and by Giuseppe Bono, for Fincantieri.
