Eni, Etap to Develop Renewable Energy Project in Tunisia

Eni last week inaugurated the construction site in Tataouine, in the south of Tunisia, for a photovoltaic plant with an installed capacity of 10 MW.

The project, which was awarded to the Tunisian National Oil Company (Etap)-Eni consortium following a public tender issued by the Tunisian authorities, will supply electricity to the state-owned Tunisian Company of Electricity and Gas (Steg), Eni said May 3.

The plant, equipped with a solar tracking system, will provide the national grid with more than 20 GWh/year of electricity and saving a total of about 260,000 metric tons of CO2 during its planned 25 years of operation, Eni said.

Eni said it will also complete construction of the Adam photovoltaic field in Tataouine this year, which will have a maximum installed capacity of 5 MW, whose power will be used directly from the industrial site.

“With these initiatives, Eni and Etap demonstrate their continued commitment to the decarbonisation of the Tunisian energy system towards a low-carbon scenario,” Eni said.
