Eni completes Cronos-2 gas well offshore Cyprus

Italy's Eni on February 15 announced the completion of the Cronos-2 gas well in the Cronos discovery in Block 6, offshore Cyprus.

The well was drilled in August 2022, and the results from the production test exceeded expectations, Eni said, with a well production capacity estimated to be more than 150mn ft3/day in production configuration.

Cronos-2 was drilled to confirm the lateral extension of the Cronos gas discovery, located approximately 3 km away from the Cronos 1 exploration well. The primary objective was to assess reservoir characteristics through a production test. The well encountered the same carbonate reservoir sequence as Cronos-1, confirming hydraulic communication and a connected thick gas column with excellent permeability intervals.

Cronos-2 marks the fourth well drilled by Eni in Block 6, following the successful gas discoveries of Calypso in 2018 and Cronos and Zeus in 2022.

Eni has been actively present in Cyprus since 2013, operating Block 6 with a 50% interest, and partnering with TotalEnergies. Eni also operates Blocks 2, 3, 8, and 9, while having participating interests in Blocks 7 and 11 operated by TotalEnergies.
