Eni, Al-Abadi Discuss Iraq's Zubair Field

Eni CEO Claudio Descalzi met Iraq's prime minister Haydar al-Abadi and his oil minister, Jabbar al-Luaibi, in Baghdad January 31 to discuss the Zubair oil field, according to Eni. 

At the beginning of March 2016, three new generation plants for oil, gas and water treatment started operating, enabling greater use of associated gas. Those plants, together with existing restructured and modernised facilities, increased the oil and natural gas treatment capacity of Zubair to 650,000 barrels of oil per day (boe/d) and will also maximise use of associated gas. It said that new water reinjection capacity should also boost output further.

Since it began operating in Iraq, Eni said its own production has more than doubled from 180,000 boe/d to the current 420,000 boe/d.

Descalzi confirmed the company’s commitment to increased investment towards sustainability in Iraq in the coming years, with a focus on the education sector and the renovation of schools in Basra, in which Eni operates, as well as maintaining a high level of technical and operational performance of the Zubair field, which it operates with a 41.6% stake.
