Engie Cuts CO2 by Divesting Polish Plant

As part of its strategic withdrawal from coal, French utility giant Engie signed December 23 an agreement with Polish state-owned utility Enea to sell it 100% of shares in Engie Energia Polska, owner of the Polaniec power plant in Poland.

The power plant comprises seven coal units and one biomass unit with a total gross capacity of 1.9 GW.

The transaction remains subject to regulatory approvals and the waiver of a preemption right by the Agricultural Properties Agency. All Engie Energia Polska employees will be taken on by Enea.

Two months ago French power giant EDF announced it had found buyers for its more significant coal-fired assets.
