Egypt Not to Halt Gas Supplies to Jordan
Egypt will not halt natural gas supplies to Jordan, Egyptian Ambassador to Jordan, Khaled Tharwat, said Monday, reports Petra News Agency of Jordan.
Calling reports that said Egypt will stop supplying gas to Jordan due to energy shortage back home as baseless and totally unfounded, Tharwat said Egypt will stand by Jordan in the current hard economic conditions it is going through.
He said the cuts in the gas supplies in the past were a result of a spate of attacks on the pipeline in the Sinai Peninsula and technical problems, adds Petra.
Under the deal signed between the two countries, Egypt is to supply Jordan with 240 million cubic feet of natural gas per day. The deal was signed in 2014 and is valid till 2019.
