Egypt, Jordan strengthen collaboration in natural gas sector

Egypt and Jordan have signed two partnership agreements to foster collaboration and leverage shared resources to ensure a stable supply of natural gas to both countries, promote energy security, and support economic development, Egypt’s ministry of petroleum and mineral resources announced on June 10.

The first agreement, signed between the Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Company (EGAS) and the Jordanian National Electricity Company, focuses on reducing operational costs for liquefied gas storage and gasification facilities. The joint use of FSRU in Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah Port in Aqaba will enable the supply of gas to both nations during emergency situations, the ministry said.

The second agreement, between EGAS and the Jordanian-Egyptian Fajr Company, aims to supply natural gas from Egypt to Jordan's industrial sector. The countries will use the existing Arab gas line to meet the industrial sector's energy needs in Jordan.

Tariq Al-Mulla, minister of petroleum and mineral resources of Egypt, said that these agreements reflect the strong cooperation and integration between the two countries in the natural gas sector. 

Saleh Kharabsheh, Jordanian minister of energy and mineral resources, stated the importance of these agreements in delivering natural gas as a cost-effective and environmentally friendly fuel for cities and industries.

As part of the ongoing collaboration, Egyptian natural gas has already begun to be supplied to the Jinsheng International Ceramic Company factory in Jordan's Qatraneh area. This move is seen as a crucial step in reducing operating costs for the factory and promoting a cleaner environment, the ministry said.
