WSJ: Egypt Open to Gas Exports From Israel, Oil Minister Says
Egypt would take the controversial step of importing gas from Israel if the price was right and if one of the gas companies involved drops legal action against the Egyptian government, the North African country’s oil minister said.
Egypt is one of a handful of Arab countries with normalized relations with Israel, but doing business with the Jewish state has resulted in protests and violence in the past. Now, with Egypt confronting its worst energy crisis in decades, the country is open to approving two pending deals to receive gas pumped out of Israel’s giant offshore fields, Oil Minister Sherif Ismail said, in an interview with The Wall Street Journal.
