EBRD and KTG Unite on Energy Efficiency
Kazakhstan gas operator KazTransGas (KTG) will join forces with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) in energy efficiency. According to a memorandum of understanding signed in the capital Astana October 26, they will explore ways to promote energy efficiency in the gas sector, reducing losses, strengthening energy security and helping Kazakhstan to cut greenhouse emissions.
The document was signed by EBRD first Vice President Phil Bennett and KazTransGas CEO Rustam Suleimanov. Work will include upgrades to compressor stations and gas networks; and systems to monitor and control greenhouse gas emissions.

"The memorandum signed today will allow us to continue to develop co-operation in expansion of gas supply of Kazakhstan’s regions. We hope that the EBRD, as a leading international financial institution, will assist us in the implementation of such large-scale and socially significant projects such as the gasification of Astana and the production of coalbed methane in the Karaganda region," said Suleimanov.
