Dutch Vopak Enters Colombian LNG Market
Dutch oil and gas infrastructure group Royal Vopak has announced the purchase of a 49% stake in Colombia’s only LNG import facility.
The Sociedad Portuaria el Cayao (Spec) terminal in the port city of Cartagena has been in service since 2016 and is managed by local gas grid operator Promigas.
“We are very much looking forward to this partnership with Promigas and to enter into the growing Colombian LNG market,” Royal Vopak’s chairman Eelco Hoekstra said in a statement on September 12. “This is another growth step in our LNG portfolio and it fits very well in our ambitions to grow and diversify our service offering in LNG.”
The Spec complex can receive more than 4.1bn m3/yr of gas and is equipped with 170,000 cubic metres of storage capability. It comprises an LNG jetty, onshore infrastructure and a 9.2-km pipeline linked to the national gas grid. LNG is imported via a chartered floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU).
Promigas has retained a 51% interest in the project.
