Dutch Athos Study Moves into Next Phase
The Dutch carbon capture, use and storage (CCUS) project, Athos, has drawn enough positive responses from customers to go ahead to the next stage, according to major industrial group VEMW February 6. No technical barriers for CCS in the North Sea Canal area have been found.
This result paves the way for further elaboration and follow-up studies, as there were enough interested parties on either side of the carbon market, said VEMW.
Athos is owned jointly by pipeline operator Gasunie, state gas producer Energie Beheer Nederland (EBN), Amsterdam municipal port company and Tata Steel. The operators launched an open season last November.
