Delfin plans FID on floating LNG project in 2022: press
US LNG developer Delfin Midstream says it expects to make a final investment decision (FID) on its floating LNG (FLNG) project in the waters of the Gulf of Mexico off Louisiana this year, news agency Reuters reported January 18.
“This is the best macro environment that the LNG business has ever seen, Delfin CEO Dudley Poston told Reuters, adding he was “very confident” FID would be taken in 2022.

Samsung Heavy Industries and Black & Veatch completed front-end engineering and design (FEED) work on a 3.5mn mt/yr FLNG vessel in the fall of 2020. Delfin's plan is to position up to four such vessels in the Gulf, yielding a combined nameplate capacity of up to 13mn mt/yr, and repurpose existing offshore pipelines to deliver feed gas to the liquefaction vessels.
Poston told Reuters each vessel would cost about $2bn, with the first expected to begin operations in 2026.
