DeepOcean secures contract for Sangomar field from Woodside

Ocean services provider DeepOcean has been awarded a contract by Australia’s Woodside to provide subsea inspection, maintenance, and repair (IMR) services for the Sangomar field located offshore Senegal, the company announced on June 19.

Situated 100 km south of Dakar, the Sangomar field commenced production earlier this month. Woodside, the operator of the Rufisque Offshore, Sangomar Offshore, and Sangomar Deep Offshore (RSSD) joint venture, reported achieving the first oil from the field on June 11. While primarily focused on oil production, Woodside also plans to export commercial quantities of natural gas to shore.

DeepOcean's contract encompasses project management, engineering, and the execution of various subsea services, including inspection, survey, intervention, and maintenance. Additional tasks include underwater inspection of the floating production storage and offloading (FPSO) unit and standalone remote operated vehicle (ROV) operations. DeepOcean’s local partner, Teranga Oil and Gas Services, will collaborate in delivering these services.

Woodside holds an 82% participating interest in the Sangomar exploitation area, with Senegalese state-owned Petrosen holding the remaining 18%. In the broader RSSD evaluation area, Woodside has a 90% interest, with Petrosen holding 10%. Woodside completed the acquisition of Sydney-listed FAR's entire participating interest in the RSSD joint venture in early July 2021.

The Phase 1 development of the Sangomar field includes the drilling of 23 wells: 11 production wells, 10 water injection wells, and 2 gas injection wells. To date, 21 of the 23 wells have been drilled and completed, including nine production wells. The RSSD joint venture has also approved a 24th production well, which will be completed during the current campaign.
