Damaged Infrastructure in Eastern Ukraine Not to Affect Transit to Europe

Confrontations in Eastern Ukraine took its toll on gas infrastructures on Friday, while Kiev said it successfully continues in its attempt to get closer to the United States. Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk reported that the US confirmed their support to the President and the Government, praising their efforts to promote “reforms”.

‘He recalled that the next plenary week the Parliament will consider bills "necessary to make Ukraine continue gradually following the path of reforms.” Arseniy Yatsenyuk stressed that the parliamentary coalition should support these laws because they are the preconditions for receiving the next IMF tranche in the amount of USD1.7 billion’ reads a note released on Friday, after the Government’s meeting. 

The situation remains complicated in the country, as fighting in East Ukraine continues. According to Ukrtansgaz, the military confrontation came with damages to a gas pipeline. Reuters wrote that the incident left three towns, including Mariupol, without gas supplies for up to two days.  

“Gas supplies to Mariupol, Berdyansk and Volnovakha will be suspended for the duration of the repair work. This emergency situation will not affect gas transit to Europe,” Ukrtransgaz wrote in a press release.
