Daewoo Delivers LNGC to Greek Shipper
South Korean shipyard Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering has delivered a new LNG carrier to Greek shipowner Maran Gas Maritime, it reported in a statement on November 19.
The 173,400-m3 carrier, ordered by Maran Gas in June 2016, is equipped with an air lubrication system that improves fuel efficiency, DSME said. It the first time the system has been fitted in a new LNG carrier, and could cut fuel costs by 5%, according to the company. Previously it has only been deployed at container ships.
After seeing the vessel undertake trial operations in October, Maran Gas has asked DSME to install air lubrication equipment at all subsequent ships it has ordered at the shipyard. Maran Gas has ordered a total of six LNG carriers from DSME this year, with the latest request being made in August.
“With the successful delivery of ships, the company has solidified its position as a leader in LNG carrier technology,” DSME said. “Based on this construction experience, we have used this technology for super-large container ships, LPG carriers, and medium tankers.”
