CSSC, Cnooc to Undertake LNG Conversion Project

China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC) and Cnooc have signed an agreement with Guangdong Province to undertake an LNG conversion project for inland waterway vessels, CSSC said on May 29 in a statement.

As per the agreement, by 2025, Guangdong Province will complete the LNG conversion of about 1,500 vessels and build 19 LNG bunkering stations. Guangdong Province will run the initiative, which will be implemented by CSSC and Cnooc.

After full completion, the demand for marine LNG is expected to be about 400,000 metric tons/year, CSSC said. According to preliminary estimates, after the implementation of this project, the emissions of nitrogen oxides and particulate matter from ships in Guangdong Province can be reduced by 12.6% and 19.5%, respectively, the company said.
