Covid Outbreak Ends at LNG Canada Site

British Columbia’s Northern Health Authority (NHA) declared the Covid-19 outbreak at the Anglo-Dutch Shell-led LNG Canada project site in Kitimat over on December 25.

No new cases related to the outbreak, which was declared November 17, had been reported since December 2, the NHA said. In total, 56 persons tested positive for Covid-19; all have recovered, and cases and close contacts have completed their required self-isolation periods.

A second, unrelated outbreak among staff of Diversified Transportation working at the LNG Canada site remains in effect. That outbreak, declared December 17, has seen no new cases since December 14, the NHA said.

On December 24, the NHA said additional Covid-19 cases had been identified as part of an outbreak at two workforce accommodation lodges on the Coastal GasLink project, the 670-km pipeline that will serve the LNG Canada terminal.

As of that date, there had been 48 laboratory-confirmed cases at the two lodges; 31 cases remain active, with the majority of patients in self-isolation in their home communities, although a small number are quarantined at the two lodges.
