Congo, Technip Energies sign cooperation agreement

The ministry of hydrocarbons of Congo has signed a cooperation agreement with Technip Energies, a French energy services provider, to expand their collaboration in offshore and onshore energy developments, the African Energy Chamber announced on June 1.

The agreement was signed during the Invest in African Energy Forum in Paris and aims to strengthen capacity building in the fields of energy transition, LNG, zero-carbon energy solutions, and decarbonisation.

Under the agreement, Technip Energies will provide its expertise to enhance the capacities of the ministry and the national oil company in various areas. This includes process engineering for oil and water treatment facilities, gas processing facilities, offshore and onshore platforms and installations such as semi-submersible rigs, LNG trains, fertilizer plants, and refineries.

The agreement also covers the development of an offshore oil and gas field, including technical studies, cost estimation, economic analysis, engineering, execution, and management of floating production, storage, and offloading units, as well as floating LNG.

Congo will benefit from Technip Energies' expertise in health, safety, and environmental studies, the chamber said. Technip Energies will also provide training to personnel in various aspects of development, leveraging their knowledge and experience in the mentioned areas.

This agreement comes at a time when Congo is making progress in its LNG market, including the recent inauguration of the Congo LNG project by Eni with a capacity of 3mn metric tons/year. The project will see the installation of two FLNG units at the Nenè and Litchendjili fields – already in production – and at the fields yet to be developed. The first FLNG plant, currently under conversion and with a capacity of 0.6mn mt/yr, will begin production in 2023. The second FLNG plant – already under construction – will become operative in 2025 with a capacity of 2.4mn mt/yr.
