China Starts up Another Offshore Field
Chinese offshore operator Cnooc and Toronto-listed Husky Energy have launched production at the Liuhua 29-1 gas field in the south China Sea, Cnooc reported on November 2.
Liuhua 29-1 is some 86 km northeast of the producing Liwan 3-1 field in waters 640-785 m deep. The project comprises a subsea wellhead that will host seven wells in total, tied back to existing facilities at Liwan 3-1 and the Liuhua 34-2 field. Production is expected to peak at 62mn ft3/day (641mn m3) in 2022.
Cnooc has a 25% interest in Liuhua 29-1 and serves as operator for its shallow-water section, while Husky has 75% and operates its deep-water section. It is the third field to start up as part of the $6.5bn Liwan gas project, following the launches of Liwan 3-1 and Liuhua 34-2 in March and December 2014.
