CNOOC Files for Canada LNG Export License
Aurora LNG, a joint venture by Nexen Energy, a wholly-owned subsidiary of China’s CNOOC Limited and two Japanese firms, INPEX Corporation and JGC Corporation, has applied for export license with Canada's National Energy Board (NEB).
"Aurora LNG is moving forward with their plans to export B.C.'s natural gas to new markets overseas," said British Columbia’s Premier Christy Clark.
The application comes little over two weeks after CNOOC Limited, through its wholly-owned subsidiary Nexen Energy entered into an exclusive agreement with the Government of British Columbia, to examine the viability of constructing a liquefied natural gas (LNG) plant and export terminal at Grassy Point near Prince Rupert, British Columbia, Canada.
"Filing an application for an export license is an important step," said Kevin Reinhart, CEO of Nexen. "However, we still have a lengthy process ahead of us before final investment decisions are made. Stakeholder consultation, environmental assessments and affirmation of technical and economic feasibility are required before the project can proceed."
Aurora LNG expects the first shipment to take place between 2021 and 2023 for the initial two trains.
