Clean Energy Fuels in US west coast bunkering operation

California-based Clean Energy Fuels said September 7 it had supplied the fuel used in the first LNG bunkering of a containership on the US west, providing 300,000 gallons of LNG bunkered to Pasha Hawaii’s MV George III.

The 774-foot MV George III operates between Long Beach and Oakland in California and Honolulu, Hawaii, and is the first of three LNG-powered ships Pasha Hawaii will deploy over the next 12 months. Together, the three vessels will consume 105mn gallons of LNG over the next five years.

LNG for the bunkering operation in Long Beach was provided from Clean Energy’s Boron facility in California, which is being expanded to meet future demand. Clean Energy also supplied LNG from its Pickens plant in Texas during the vessel’s commissioning at a shipyard in Brownsville.
