China's Tianjin Terminal's Expansion to Begin Soon
Cnooc Gas and Power, a subsidiary of state-owned Cnooc, said company’s investment review and decision committee has approved the expansion of its Tianjin LNG terminal located in the northern Chinese prefecture of Tianjin.
In this phase, six 220,000 m3 LNG storage tanks, 12 gasifiers, 12 high-pressure pumps and three low-temperature compressors and ancillary facilities will be built, Cnooc Gas and Power said May 31. In 2018, the terminal’s capacity is expected to be 3.21mn mt/yr, which will rise to 7.25mn mt/yr by 2030, the company said, adding Tianjin LNG terminal processed 2.08mn mt of LNG in 2017, an increase of 215% over the previous year.
Tianjin LNG terminal expansion plan will now enter the preliminary design stage, and work is expected to commence by year-end. It will be partially operational in 2021 and will be fully ready in 2022, Cnooc Gas and Power said.
The company believes in the coming years, gas demand in northern China will rise significantly and existing capacity of Tianjin LNG terminal is not sufficient to meet the demand of the region.
