China's First Deep-Water Field Hits Milestone

China’s first deep water gas field, Liwan 3-1, December 19 achieved a production milestone of 10bn m³, Cnooc said December 20. About 300 km southeast of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, the Liwan project was the first deepwater gas project offshore China.

First gas was produced in March 2014. Canadian Husky, as operator, holds 49% interest while Cnooc, with 51% interest, operates the shallow water facilities, including the platform, subsea pipeline to shore and the onshore Gaolan gas terminal.

In the past three years, natural gas produced at Liwan 3-1 was delivered to the gas-fired power plants, industrial enterprises and homes in Guangdong province through the natural gas pipeline network constructed by Cnooc.
