China May LNG Imports Up Over 27%
China imported 1.43 million tonne (mt) of LNG in the month of May, up 27.3 percent on year.
As per the data published by General Administration of Customs, imports in May were, however, lower compared with April imports which were 1.89 mt.
China's pipeline gas imports in May were 2.03 mt, up 17.03 percent on year.
Asia has four major LNG importers: Japan, South Korea, China and India. Although China and India have seen higher LNG imports in recent months as lower prices have stimulated domestic demand. Japan and South Korea have reported lower domestic gas sales.
In May, India’s LNG imports rose 43.4 percent while Japan reported a 4 percent decline. In South Korea, KOGAS reported 8.6 percent decline in May domestic gas sales.
