China Imports Record LNG in November

China’s LNG imports hit new monthly record in November as demand for the commodity remained strong during the ongoing winter season.

According to the data published by the customs department December 23, China imported 5.99 million metric tons (mt) of LNG last month, up 48.5% year-on-year. Previous record was set in January 2018 when Asia’s biggest economy imported 5.18mn mt of LNG.

During the first 11 months of 2018 imports were 47.52mn mt, up 43.6% year-on-year, the customs department data showed. Cumulative imports this year have already surpassed last year’s record of 38.13mn mt. 

Last year, China edged ahead of South Korea to become the world's second-largest LNG importing nation, after Japan.
