Chevron on Target for Drilling of Polish Shales
Chevron Corp. is preparing to drill a test well in Poland in the fourth quarter of this year as it looks for shale gas in the country, said John Claussen, Poland country manager at Chevron Polska Energy Resources.
Chevron has been conducting seismic activities and has hired NAFTA Pila, a unit of Polish state-controlled gas firm PGNiG SA to drill the well.
The company acquired four shale gas exploration concessions in Poland (Zwierzyniec, Frampol, Krasnik and Grabowiec,) in the Lublin Basin in late 2009/early 2010, in its first entry into shale gas exploration in Europe.
The company plans has a multi-well program in Poland that will run through next year, Claussen said.
Chevron has also expressed interest in shales in Ukraine, Romania and Bulgaria.
