Chevron joins maritime emissions reduction group
Chevron Shipping Company, a unit of US major Chevron, has joined the Sea Cargo Charter, a global initiative aimed at reducing the emissions impacts of the shipping industry, Chevron said December 9.
The Sea Cargo Charter establishes a common baseline to assess and disclose whether shipping activities are aligned with adopted climate goals. It aligns with the policies and ambitions adopted by the UN’s International Maritime Organisation, including a target to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from shipping to 50% of 2008 levels by 2050.

“The Sea Cargo Charter provides a global standard for reporting shipping emissions that advances the decarbonisation of the maritime industry,” Chevron Shipping president Mark Ross said. “We are excited to join and partner with Sea Cargo Charter to enhance the transparency and accuracy of reporting which will promote responsible environmental performance.”
The development of the Sea Cargo Charter has been led by a number of global shippers, including Anglo American, Cargill Ocean Transportation, Dow, Norden, TotalEnergies, Trafigura, Euronav, Gorrissen Federspiel and Stena Bulk.
