FT: Cheniere Energy chief pushes for a global spot market in LNG
The former Wall Street banker behind the plan to launch the first large-scale US natural gas exports to Europe and Asia believes he is not just bring America’s shale bounty to world markets, but makes a bold claim that he will revolutionise the way the commodity is traded.
Charis Souki, the chief executive of Cheniere Energy, says the start up of the company’s Sabine Pass liquefied natural gas terminal in Louisiana in December will create a global market for LNG that could eventually compete with oil, where million of short-term deals are done every day.
