CGG and Kent ink CCUS partnership deal

Geoscience technology company CGG has joined forces with Dubai-headquartered engineering services provider Kent in a strategic alliance aimed at delivering services surrounding carbon capture, utilisation and storage (CCUS) and hydrogen production capacity, CGG said on April 5.

The pair have agreed to develop "end-to-end" services for carbon storage and usage, as well as hydrogen, in the energy and industrial sectors. These services could include subsurface characterisation to evaluate abandoned reservoirs that could store CO2, or late life-cycle activities like decommissioning and long-term site monitoring.

Customers will also be able to access expertise in project engineering, planning, construction and commissioning, through modalities like data management plans and instrumentation documents.

CGG said the collaboration would enable clients to "masterplan" entire CCUS clusters, leveraging its expertise in subsurface characterisation and risk analysis for both CCUS and hydrogen programmes. It also offers data libraries dedicated to geology and seismic information to help clients find suitable depleted oil and gas reservoirs or aquifiers.

Kent delivered its first hydrogen supply project more than 50 years ago, and has participated in more than 50 carbon capture projects globally. The company's chief energy transition officer, John Kent, said the collaboration would help its customers accelerate their energy transition objectives.

"Working together is critical if we are going to decarbonise the sector fully - no one company or organisation can do it alone," said Kent, "So we at Kent are actively looking for partnerships such as these that facilitate information sharing and a faster transition to net-zero."
