Certarus in hydrogen supply deal with Plug Power

Canadian compressed natural gas solutions provider Certarus, through its US subsidiary, has partnered with Plug Power to scale and expand infrastructure to support green hydrogen fuel, it said December 14.

Plug Power will supply Certarus with up to 10 tons/day of green hydrogen from its North American production network, with initial deliveries expected in Q1 2022. Certarus will move the hydrogen using its compressed gas delivery trailers directly from the production locations to clients of both Plug Power and Certarus in the mining, power generation, natural gas midstream and industrial sectors.

“We are building out a green hydrogen ecosystem, with the goal to deliver 500 tons/day of green hydrogen by 2025 and 1,000 tons/day by 2028,” Plug Power CEO Andy Marsh said. “The partnership with Certarus is a meaningful step in building out the green hydrogen ecosystem to serve large energy sectors and in providing Plug Power the ability to flex and scale our overall delivery capabilities.”

The partnership is expected to relieve infrastructure bottlenecks and make cost-effective hydrogen available to more customers. To help green hydrogen’s adoption in energy transition application, Certarus will offer hydrogen to its customers in either its pure form or as a methane-blended fuel.

“Certarus’ access to Plug Power’s green hydrogen production will allow us to sell cost-effective green hydrogen to our own unique customers,” Certarus CEO Curtis Philippon said.
