Central Petroleum Flows Gas from Exploration Well in Australia’s Amadeus Basin

Central Petroleum has flowed gas from its Mt Kitty 1 exploration well in Australia’s Amadeus Basin.

Santos, the operator, has notified that the exploration well reached its programmed total depth of 2,295m.

Central Managing Director, Richard Cottee, said the prime objective of the Mt Kitty 1 well was to confirm there is a hydrocarbon charge in the Southern Amadeus Basin which could be the catalyst to interconnect the Northern Territory with the eastern seaboard gas market.

“Whilst it is too early to speculate on the commercial significance of the gas discovered in the Mt Kitty 1 well until logging operations are completed and gas samples are analysed, it should be noted that the geological parameters known to date are aligned with, if not better than, those expected prior to drilling for example, the gross Heavitree thickness is better than expected prior to drilling,” Cottee said.

Central holds a 30 per cent working interest in the joint venture with Santos holding the other 70 per cent.
