Canada’s Woodfibre LNG Receives Facility Permit
Canada’s Woodfibre LNG, a subsidiary of Indonesia’s Pacific Oil & Gas (PO&G), said July 3 it had received its LNG facility permit from provincial regulator the BC Oil and Gas Commission (BCOGC), one of the last permits it needs before starting construction on its 2.1mn mt/yr LNG export facility at Squamish, north of Vancouver.
“This is a positive step forward as we work to build the cleanest LNG export facility in the world,” Woodfibre LNG CEO David Keane said. “This permit is a large piece of our puzzle, and with it in place, we are working towards a final decision to proceed with this project this summer.”

The project has already received three major environmental assessment approvals, including a first-of-its-kind environmental approval from the Squamish First Nation, on whose traditional territory the C$1.8bn project will be built.
Last month, PO&G said it had signed British major BP as a foundation buyer for the Woodfibre LNG project, agreeing a 15-year sales and purchase agreement with the company for 0.75mn mt/yr of LNG.
It is also in talks with BP’s Canadian subsidiary to provide transportation and balancing services for the liquefaction terminal’s gas supply, and on June 28, closed its previously announced acquisition of Montney producer Canbriam Energy.
The terminal will be supplied by the Eagle Mountain-Woodfibre gas pipeline project, a 47-km extension of the existing FortisBC gas transmission system.
