Canada’s NGIF selects 11 for cleantech funding

Canada’s NGIF Industry Grants said January 26 11 cleantech projects in hydrogen, carbon capture, utilisation and storage (CCUS) and renewable natural gas (RNG), among others, have been selected for funding under its Round 8 Natural Gas Cleantech Competition.

The competition was launched in May 2022 and attracted 61 applicants. The 11 selected finalists – with a combined eligible project value of nearly $43mn – will receive a total of C$3.7mn in grant funding to advance technology innovations in the natural gas production, transmission and distribution sectors.

“Their cleantech solutions will boost Canada’s natural gas industry’s competitiveness and allow the supply of more sustainable and responsible natural gas,” said John Adams, NGIF Capital Corporation CEO. “NGIF Industry Grants and its focus on startups de-risking their clean technologies through field trials and pilots is a part of NGIF’s integrated model of industry validation, customer creation, and market commercialisation.”

Four projects in the hydrogen sector will receive total grant funding of about C$1.83mn, while two energy efficiency projects will receive C$810,728. Four other projects, in the methane mitigation, RNG, digital technologies and value-added projects sector will receive funding totaling C$940,250.
