Enbridge makes several environmental pledges
Canadian pipeline company Enbridge on September 28 announced fresh commitments to the energy transition, from ESG practices to potential blue hydrogen production.
Enbridge already committed to cutting its greenhouse gas emissions and has a handful of renewable natural gas (RNG) projects in operation across the country. On its environmental, social and governance (ESG) practices, the company said it has invested nearly C$2.3mn (US$1.8mn) toward its goals and relied on indigenous Canadians for 7% of the crew working on a replacement project for its Line 3 oil pipeline that reaches into Wisconsin.

Elsewhere, the company said it set up a centralised “New Energies” team to examine low-carbon opportunities across the midstream sector.
“The team will leverage and build upon Enbridge's early investments in the areas of renewable natural gas, hydrogen, and carbon capture, utilisation and sequestration, as well as other low-carbon technologies,” the company explained.
Meanwhile, the company signed a memorandum of understanding with Shell to examine everything from green hydrogen, which uses water as a feedstock, to blue hydrogen, which is derived from natural gas, as well as carbon capture and storage opportunities.
A separate partnership with US-based renewable natural gas infrastructure company Vanguard Renewables calls for the construction of eight facilities across the US Northeast and Midwest that could process as much as 2bn ft3/year of natural gas sourced from food and farm waste.
“This partnership positions Enbridge as the partner of choice for future Vanguard mixed-waste RNG development projects,” the Canadian company said.
