Cairn Oil & Gas submits plan for Jaya gas field in India

Cairn Oil & Gas, a subsidiary of Mumbai-listed Vedanta, has formally submitted a field development plan (FDP) for the Jaya gas field located in the western Indian state of Gujarat, it said on January 11.

This development follows the company's gas and condensate discovery in the onshore Open Acreage Licensing Policy (OALP) block in Gujarat, which was first notified in August 2021.

The Jaya gas field, one of Cairn's initial discoveries under India’s OALP regime, holds promising potential for contributing to the nation's domestic oil and gas production. This submission is the first FDP under the OALP regime, encompassing 144 blocks awarded through eight OALP rounds by the Indian government to various industry players.

“We are delighted to have progressed to Jaya discovery to its FDP and ready to begin production from Jaya block. At Cairn Oil & Gas, driving new exploration is a key pillar as we strive towards our goal of achieving 50% contribution to India’s domestic oil and gas production,” said Steve Moore, deputy CEO, Cairn Oil & Gas.

Cairn said it has signed a commercial gas sales agreement for gas off-take.
