Brazil's pick for Petrobras CEO withdraws
Respected energy consultant Adriano Pires has declined the Brazilian government's nomination of him to serve as CEO of national oil company Petrobras, the country's energy ministry reported on April 4.
"It was clear to me that I could not reconcile my consulting work with the exercise of Petrobras' command," Pires wrote in a letter that was published by the ministry on its website.

Brazil's government removed former CEO, retired general Joaquim Silva e Luna, in late March, less than a year after his appointment. He is understood to have been ousted for the same reason as his predecessor Robert Castello Branco - a clash with the government over the company's fuel price policy.
Pires' turning down of the position came a day after company veteran Rodolfo Landim turned down an offer to chair Petrobras' board.
