BP Raises Turkmen Gas Reserves
BP has raised the size of Turkmenistan’s known natural gas reserves to 24.3 trillion cm as of the end of 2011, almost double the previous year’s appraisal of 13.4 trillion cm.
The energy firm in its Statistical Review of World Energy report said that worldwide proven natural gas reserves at the end of 2011 were sufficient to meet 63.6 years of production.
Taking about production of natural gas, the report said that two major gas producers in Asia, Iran and Qatar saw rise in output in 2011 compared with 2010.
Iran’s gas output at the end of 2011 stood at almost 152 bcm compared with 146 bcm at the end of 2010. Qatar’s output at the end of 2011 was nearly 147 bcm compared with 117 bcm at the end of 2010.
The whole of Middle East, gas output at the end of 2011 stood at 526 bcm, 11.4 per cent higher than the same period in 2010.
