Blue Energy Signs Gas Supply Deal with Origin

Sydney-listed Blue Energy has executed a non-binding heads of agreement (HOA) with Origin Energy for the supply of gas from its Northern Bowen basin ATP814 coalbed methane tenure in Queensland, it said on March 19.

Blue will supply up to 300 petajoules (8bn m3) of gas at Wallumbilla over 10 years from its ATP814 tenure. This is the second such HOA executed by Blue which facilitates North Bowen basin gas to be delivered into the main east coast domestic market to the south from Moranbah.

Blue and EnergyAustralia signed a similar agreement in December for the delivery of 100 petajoules of gas from the North Bowen basin into Wallumbilla. This now brings the total gas under HOA from Blue’s North Bowen basin acreage to 400 petajoules, the company said.

“This latest agreement with Origin represents another foundation gas volume that will contribute to the underpinning of the proposed gas pipeline from the North Bowen basin into the Wallumbilla “Hub”, and for the development of Blue Energy’s North Bowen basin gas resources,” it said.

Blue’s 100% owned permit, ATP814, has been assessed to contain more than 3,248 petajoules of contingent resources around Moranbah. In addition to this volume, there are currently 71 petajoules of 2P reserves and 298 petajoules of 3P reserves in close proximity to the existing gas field infrastructure in the North Bowen basin, the company added.
