Black & Veatch, Baker Hughes to collaborate on LNG solutions

LNG infrastructure developer Black & Veatch (B&V) and energy technology company Baker Hughes said November 4 they would collaborate to bring mid-scale LNG solutions to the market.

Announced in Abu Dhabi at ADIPEC 2024, the collaboration will bring together B&V’s PRICO® liquefaction technology and Baker Hughes’ LM9000 gas turbine and compression technology in a standard mid-scale LNG solution capable of producing up to 2mn tonnes/year/train.

PRICO® was first used on a floating facility in 2016 and since then, six different projects using it have reached final investment decisions. The LM9000, meanwhile, is the most efficient aeroderivative gas turbine in its class and is suitable for a number of mechanical drive and power generation applications, including onshore and LNG projects.

“Technology and collaboration are both key pillars in our strategy to continue supporting our customers with innovative solutions that meet their needs and enhance sustainable energy development,” said Alberto Matucci, a Baker Hughes vice president.

The collaboration is already moving forward with the deployment of PRICO®technology and the LM9000 “on a current project” under construction, B&V senior vice president Youssef Merjaneh said.

“This collaboration is an offering to clients that moves towards the next generation of mid-scale LNG trains,” he said.
