Belarus on Shale Gas Search
Belarus is looking to experts from Poland, Lithuania, and the United States to help Belarusian geologists find shale gas deposits.
Natural Resources and Environmental Protection Minister Vladimir Tsalko said work to find shale gas is in the initial stages.
Initial activity by Belorusneft in association with a Polish company, will reportedly will focus on a prospective area near Brest by the border with Poland.
Tsalko has confirmed that his Ministry has worked out proposals to transfer this area to concession.
“I want to stress that the search of shale gas is a long process, at least five years. Moreover, it is an expensive project,” Tsalko said at an online conference hosted by BeITA.
According to the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, no deposits of shale gas have been found in Belarus to date.
