Bangladesh to Study Domestic Shale Gas Prospects
Bangladesh is taking steps to explore the country's shale gas potentials to help meet the country's mounting energy demand and ensure its future energy security,
The nations’s energy ministry has recently asked the Hydrocarbon Unit (HCU) to assign an international consultant to carry out a study and determine the country's shale gas prospects.
"We found expression of interest from eight firms including some major global players to determine Bangladesh shale gas prospects," said HCU Director General Anwar H Khan as reported by the Financial Express.
To determine the country's shale gas prospects the selected firm will review existing wells logs of selected area, establish shale plays and their lateral extents, establish thickness and depth of the shale plays, review existing geochemical data of the shale formations and identify areas where further investigation is necessary, Khan added.
Asian Development Bank will provide necessary fund to the firm for determining Bangladesh's shale gas prospect, he said.
